Bring 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' story to life with playdough and some simple props.

One of our favourite stories is 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' and my eldest remembers lots of the key parts of this story as we read it together. We set up a play scene with the girl and her mummy from the dolls house and some black and orange playdough to allow my little girl to create her very own tiger. She looked at the pictures in the book and asked me to help her make some stripes for the tiger which she then put over him before adding the googly eyes. She then used the props to retell the story reciting her favourite bits!

What we used:

  • black and orange playdough
  • dolls house people, table
  • googly eyes

This activity can help children:

  • recall and retell main events from the story
  • develop their imagination
  • remember key parts of a story
  • develop language skills
  • create models using dough
