Messy Monday: Soapflakes!

Tags: messy monday, messy play, sensory

Section: Sensory

Playing in soapflakes is great for experimenting with how a substance can change state when water is added. At the beginning children can play with the solid flakes of soap and then watch them dissolve as they whisk them up with water. It is a fantastic tactile experience which encourages lots of descriptive language.

What you need:

  • a box of soapflakes
  • a large tub
  • a jug
  • water

Things you could add:

  • colour by mixing in food colouring or powder paint

  • objects (such as cotton reels) to hide in the soapflakes

  • glitter for extra sparkle!

  • small world characters for enhanced imaginative play
