Section: Exploratory Objects

Putting a basket of objects which are all the same colour is an alternative way for children to explore a range of different objects and can be a fun way to start differentiating between and recognising colours.

Objects could include:

  • fruit
  • toys
  • clothes
  • kitchenware
  • books
  • fabric
  • craft materials

Benefits of this activity?

Baskets with coloured objects provide very young children with both a tactile and visually stimulating activity. For slightly older children it can be a good way to start talking about the names of colours and aid colour recognition. Exploring a range of different items can be interesting and also provide imaginative play opportunities.
